I wanted to update on a post I posted a while back. I had a client with two dogs and one ripped the neck of the other. Owner first paid $400.00 to a trainer that was in business as a trainer for over 20 years. She recommended a shock collar. He ordered and tried on himself. He returned right away and then called me. I am a R+ trainer. Dogs were kept separate after incident. The dog was in such fear due to the environment it was living in. The area was very windy at all times and neighborhood dogs were off leash charging the fence on a daily basis. This owner was amazing!!!! He wanted to do what it took. He hired a dog walker I recommended (she is also a trainer) since dog had to be in crate (outside was just too scary). Dog walker was amazing and took dog to various places away from house while using DS/CC. We worked on calming behaviors, always had puzzle toys and chew items for dog when he was gone, other dog was given to friend, this dog was put on anxiety meds. All was going ok except the dog was just too freaked due to the environment. Well, he moved!! No more wind, no more dogs charging the fence, owner closer to work so there more. I went for my last session today and the dog is a different dog. Plays with other dogs, able to relax, and just happy. Owner said he finally feels like he has bonded with his dog. He said of course he would move if the dog was living in fear. I cried right in front of him. I have to give kudos to the vet. The vet saved this dogs life and did not judge because he was a pit. This is a VERY long story short, but had to share.
