I wanted to write about this for a while but I wanted to make sure - TopicsExpress

I wanted to write about this for a while but I wanted to make sure I had the right words. People sometimes ask me to do jobs for them, many times people look at me like I am speaking German when I say portraits are $250 for 2 hours or shoot is $1000 or its higher for video and photos etc, and you get to buy prints at a reduced price, as many as you want. I am on the cheaper end of the spectrum because I am a nice guy and I want to share my talent with everyone. I also been asked to take 1 photo....just 1.....then when I say $250 people still try to get a discount. People look at my fine art photos and 95% of the time say they are too expensive. Well they are because it has nothing to do with my current financial state, I am stable and doing well, its more of what I provide and what I am worth in my eyes and my reputation. You are paying for a service! A higher end service. I use top of the line equipment, top of the line software, computers and I only print and release photos of the highest standards. I take thousands of photos on a big shoot and will only use maybe 100-300 maximum 500 of those. I then spend hours going in and making sure each photo is unique, stands out, correcting colors, getting rid of noises, removing people, etc. I recently have ran into a bit of competition where I live at, I live on a military base where wives decide one day they are going to become a photographer. Great I commend you, learn the trade first though. I see advertising for $75 and sometimes $100 for portraits. I commend you again. Completely undercut me with a product that was made cheaply and has limitations. Its the same thing as the difference between buying a BMW and a Honda, BMW will obviously be nicer but you will pay for it. Same thing with me, My photos last 100 years or more if taken care of, I only use the best printer in the US that prints on the highest quality paper and uses the best ink with minimal color variance. I use the best equipment, the best software and best computers I can on the market. I do that so the images you get are far superior. I go out of my way and i believe in 150% customer satisfaction...email any of my clients and ask. I absolutely refuse to lower my prices, barter, trade or do anything for free unless it is for a good cause such as a charity event etc. It is insulting to ask me to do photographs for free or try to barter my fine art prices, most of the time I will often discount them here and there just because I had some sales and I want to share. Do not try to price match me with the wife down the road with a 8 megapixel camera that has bottom of the line lens that will not create the same effect. Highly insulting. It generally cost thousands of dollars to create some of the images, I have been fortunate enough to study at one of the best art schools in the country. So I implore you next time you ask any photographer or any artist for a discount, free stuff, trade...really think about what you are asking them for??? Would you take your car into a garage and ask them to fix it for free? What about going to the grocery store and asking the cashier to have all the food for free? Same thing! I pride myself in my craft and If anyone is not satisfied I always make it right I always go back for free and replace the print or redo it to the liking of the customer.
