I wanted today to honor a true hero of the US military, Col. George "Bud" Day, the most highly decorated US service member when he died on July 27 at the age of 88. A Congressional Medal of Honor of winner, Col. Day was a Marine in World II before becoming an Air Force pilot and flying missions in the Korea and Vietnam Wars. He is perhaps most well know for what he did after he was shot down in Vietnam and became a POW at the infamous "Hanoi Hilton". He withstood incredible torture and ceaseless interrogations and gave the enemy nothing of value. More than that, he nursed many of his fellow POWs back to health, and was an inspirational leader to many other heroes among them, including John Mc Cain. He was crucial to helping Mc Cain and others survive and prevail over their awful circumstances. You led a life of distinction, sir. Well done, Colonel. and now you are home with God. siouxcityjournal/business/agriculture/col-bud-day-s-courage-humility-recalled-during-sioux-city/article_5c152e33-4fc8-514b-9824-3d696f1c9317.html
