I was Driving down 1-52 today and a fellow vette owner in a c6 pulls up next to me. we both acknowledge that we are vette owners with the standard wave; which was made easy with my targa top off and his convertible top down. He then comments that I have a nice sounding exhaust; to which I respond with a simple thanks and a smile. He then proclaims But mine sounds better, wanna hear? The burgundy c6 followed the question with a rev. Now as a punk kid in a c4 corvette being challenged by a fellow vette owner I accepted, knowing that I was going against a borderline supercar. Eyes now focused on the stoplight above, brow narrowed for full aerodynamics, lying in anticipation for the G-forces that were about to attack my body. The light turned green and I drop the clutch at 3000 rpm and Im off! A perfect start. My ASR light comes to life to inform me that I have minimal traction, but deceases in a second as the c4 regains momentum after the slap to the face the engine had on the vehicle. Looking at my speedometer I climb to 60 mph when I look and find that my opponent is in my rear view mirror, smoke shadowing the car. The sign of a spin out. With this realization I am overjoyed of my start and let my vette climb to 83 mph before letting my beast take a breath. I approach the left turn lane of the next stoplight as the older vette enthusiast passes me with a congratulatory wave. This goes to show. Its not about whats under the hood, but whose behind the wheel.
