I was Inside The State Assembly When They were Fighting - Gov Amaechi. **I was there as the state chief security officer, to rescue the Assembly members, as they were attacked by the other faction. Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi has defended his presence at the State House of Assembly on the day that it was engulfed with crisis. It will be recalled that two factions in the House of Assembly engaged in a free - for – all over the impeachment of the Speaker. Chibuike Amaechi, who was sighted at the chambers during the fight, had been widely criticised for being there. The Governor have always denied being around the Assembly building when queried of his insinuation and planning the attack on those legislatures that he felt are against him. Governor Amaechi, while fielding questions from the audience at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House), in London, yesterday, he made a u-turn that he went there to rescue the situation in his capacity as the chief security officer of the state. He said, “When I heard the members of the Assembly had been attacked by thugs, I went there with my security attaché to rescue the situation because the police assigned to the Assembly had compromised. “I abhor violence, the first people to condemn are the policemen who refused to perform their duties of protecting the lawmakers.” The video recording in the state house assembly is managed by the Rivers state government and there have been no clips showing where the Pro-Amaechi legislatures were attacked by their colleagues. - Hope For Nigeria.
