I was a little surprised when one of my students told me that women could not be president because they spend too much time putting on make-up instead of protecting their countries (that sound you hear is Margaret Thatcher rolling over in her grave). Today, we had a debate on men vs women leaders. The kids did a great job, but Id like to build on the issue through a series of discussions. We talked shortly about the fact that Angela Merkel leads the 4th largest economy in the world, Hillary Clinton is a strong contender to be president in 2016, and that the U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan is a woman. Does anyone have have particularly inspiring examples of female role models? I know many Head of States, but am looking to include people I might not otherwise think about.
