I was a member of one of the 38th Avenue focus groups a few years - TopicsExpress

I was a member of one of the 38th Avenue focus groups a few years ago and I can tell you that they were foggy. We were asked if we would like better roads, better sidewalks and/or better bike paths. The plan was never explained to us as to what would have to be given up to make any of these choices. It was much like being asked if you would rather have an ice cream cone or a candy bar! Even then, at this meeting, I brought up the idea that maybe 38th Avenue is not the right place for these types of plans as it a major artery into the city. I suggested that they use Harlan or Upham or another side street and flow traffic to it on 38th. If you want to build a Tennyson type area, than build it like Tennyson is built. This idea was not considered when I made it back then because, it seemed, decisions had already been made and choices narrowed down. I feel that I was deceived.
