I was about 7-yrs old and my two brothers 9 and 11. We were born 2-yrs apart as you have worked out. Sonny the eldest was a mischief maker and he loved to annoy Hameed who would get very angry and lose his temper; this was what Sonny would attempt to do to him. Sonny could climb trees like a monkey and would not be daunted even by the tallest coconut tree. Hameed on the other hand was a fast runner but could never climb a coconut tree, no matter how hard he tried. At school he was a good high jumper also. As for me, I cant climb a coconut tree to this day but could run a little. In fact I was naughty one day and called my mom catoon bax (cartoon box). Her maiden name was Khatun Baksh. My dad gave chase when he returned home from work. I was so fast at running, it took him only a few strides to catch up with me and I felt the belt on my legs. Anyway, the three of us set out to cut courda wood (courida) for the kitchen fire. As we headed towards the sea side we had to walk along this sea dam which had a few coconut trees and a couple of tamarind trees also. And, the teasing and taunting started. Hameed was enraged and I was very amused. It was when I saw the cutlish in Hameeds hand and which he started brandishing threateningly that I got frightened. This didnt stop Sonny, but Hameed gave chase, the nearest coconut tree was Sonnys saviour. He scooted up the tree and was soon among the branches peering down laughing and taunting at my angry brother who could do nothing about it; or so I thought until he started chopping at the coconut tree! Sonny at seeing this started throwing some young coconuts at him one of which slid off Hameeds head and on to his shoulder. He decided he had enough and we both walked home without any firewood. Our dad was not very amused at what happened. I dont know how long Sonny spent on top of the coconut tree but he did not return home until late in the evening to answer to our dad. The taunting never stopped and continued even as we got older.
