I was always curious why Nelson Mandela departed from Winnie following his release from prison and subsequent presidential run, particularly since she held him down while he rotted in the joint. Just out of respect for loyalty he surely shouldve stayed with her. Now Ive seen Mandela, starring Idris Elba, and the movie offered a plausible reason: They were diametrically opposed to one another with divergent goals and perspectives. The character Idris portrayed exhibited a quiet, intelligent strength that I was unaware of in the man Mandela. We witness anger and misguided sentiment rooted in ignorance that we now believe such bravado to be genuine and authentic. It is not. The revolution IS being televised, it is a process and the outcome is in jeopardy of being manipulated for mass dissemination amongst the vast majority who may as well be sleeping through it. Better to act, in your own way, than react. An observation. . .
