I was angry yesterday-----yes it was unbecoming. A woman, about 53 came to my office and asked for my help. She was fleeing her abusive ex-husband after 12 years. In the last 5 years she had been saving money for her divorce and her departure from him. She had sought restraining orders and even moved, but he had harassed and threatened her. During their marriage they had two children, one 8 and 10, who had watched their father beat their mom----break her nose, her ribs, and permanently damage her right eye. The children had also suffered injuries in trying to defend their mother or hide from their father and his demonic temper. The younger child had suffered a head injury and now needed physical and psychological therapy. I admired this womans strength-----save enough to protect her children and leave. The police in her country could not do much after thirteen restraining orders and they didnt want to get involved in domestic situations. But she survived, and now is seeking help to ensure that her husband doesnt locate her as he has threatened to kill her. I couldnt imagine someone hurting this small framed woman, or beating the children, but the more she told me, the more infuriated I became. She had been advised by family and her priest to endure. Her female friends had helped her escape. Violence in any relationship is NOT LOVE! And as she begged me to take her case because her female friends had brought her to me........a pain in heart gave way----as I cease to take anymore cases----who will help women like her? :(
