I was apparently unfriended today. Heaven forbid that I would start a self-pity party for something like that. If anyone is to be pitied; its someone who posts a quote concerning the spiritual life from someone who lived as a member of a heretical religion that teaches a false gospel, very clearly referred to by the Apostle Paul as ACCURSED! To be as clear as possible, the quote itself sounded legitimate. A merely honest question was asked about the reliability of such a quote from this religious figure. And the result was an unreasonable reaction. Regardless of the legitimacy of any quote, the reliability of the source is NOT unimportant. The Word of God is unmistakably clear that when the Antichrist appears; his deception will be so effective, his personality will be so compelling and his words will be so attractive; so as, if possible, he could even deceive the Elect. So, in a hypothetical situation, if a professing Christian heard something from the Antichrist that even sounded Biblical; would it be wise to quote him, simply because what he said sounded good? Anyone who knows me in the least, knows that, if I quote someone who is not a reliable source concerning spiritual issues; if I make a statement that does not match up with Scripture; if I use Scripture erroneously taken out of context; I WELCOME clarification, correction, even public rebuke. I would be remiss, if I were unwilling to accept edifying criticism from anyone who has a heart for the discernment of that which is true, based on the inerrant Word of God. If any of what Ive said appears to be unloving; it certainly isnt meant to be. In fact, I have difficulty understanding how correction of spiritual error is in any way out of line. (2 Timothy 3:16)
