I was asked by a few people recently what I think about the BRICS Bank, officially called the New Development Bank (NDB). As I noted just very recently, I think virtually NOTHING GOOD of this new institution. Yes, its establishment is designed to counter/balance the lopsided influence of Western-based lending institutions and the dollar on the the global economy. That is doubtless good. BUT...there the goodness ends! What we are witnessing here (and putting aside questions of its feasibility and the internal politics and power plays among its members), a point too that I have made frequently in the past, is merely a realigning of the forces AMONG major blocks of the scum elites who own you and rule over your lives. Will this new institution mean anything good for the vast majority of mankind? No. It will serve the purposes and the whims of the elites in the BRICS and related nations. Maybe some of you may feel you can also personally benefit from that. Yes, that may be....but it does NOT CHANGE the fact that WORLDS GREATEST PROBLEMS: from global warming to resource depletion to habitat destruction to the perilous reduction of biodiversity to the radical reconfiguration of the geobiochemical systems (nitrogen cycle, carbon dioxide cycle etc.) that maintain the biosphere that we need for our very survival to the unchallenged rise of corporate power to ever-increasing global inequality will NOT be addressed in any meaningful sense. This new institution is a neoliberal institution. It will play by the same rules as the old institutions: growth disguised as development, but growth for the sake of the pecuniary gain for a few and regardless of the costs to all others. The ONE difference is, is that the rulers have changed... but they are scum nonetheless. As always, I throw down the hat and challenge you to mark my words!
