I was asked by media to comment on a press release from the Tax - TopicsExpress

I was asked by media to comment on a press release from the Tax Payers Union - which itself makes some very controversial comments about the governments timing and allocation of funds towards the Skyline Gravity Park of $225k. I questioned the timing of this (election year) and also if this was where any government funding was most needed, given that the parent company posted a substantial profit, but also more importantly that so many other areas of Rotorua are in desperate need. The project itself was not under any review by me, only the government process. This is a fantastic venture, which will no doubt bring events and revenue to our city for years to come, not to mention the joy it will bring its users. All of this I personally support. Government needs to be supportive of business, and co-operative events, based around resources like this, where benefits are spread to our entire community, similar to the 2006 World MTB Champs that were held in Rotorua, which are a great boost for our people and our region. But the allocation of Tax Payer funds, especially for private enterprise should always be questioned and people should be able to review all sides that are involved, without fear of personal attacks or retribution after all, it is Tax Payer money. Please if you are supportive of me, I hope that you will also support this enterprise and ensure it has a bright future as part of our region, as I was not questioning this venture, nor was I asked too. I am very clear though I am only posing a question around government process which is allocating tax payer funds to private business and the timing as it relates to the upcoming election. My door is always open to all members of our community who wish to discuss this issue or any issue with me.
