I was asked by one of the Staff Nurses after we managed to subdue an agressive patient in the ward, why do you want to do psychiatry?. I dont know what to answer back then, but if I were asked the same question again, I will answer this, many doctors focused on adding years to life, I want to focus on adding life to years. Whats the point of live longer and healthier, but your mind is sick and you cant function as a part of society. Each day I pray to Allah to grant me strength and wisdom to work and function as a Psychiatry MO and hopefully I can continue to be a psychiatrist one day.. May God grant all of the doctors wisdom and strength wherever youre practising or teaching future doctors. Whenever in doubt, remember Gods word, ... And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely... (Quran 5:32) Happy World Mental Health Day and Doctors Day...
