I was asked last night if I, as an atheist, believed in a soul. I said that you can find a way to be an atheist and believe in a soul, but that I did not. I think that when you die all of what constitutes your identity (memories, perceptions, cognitions, sensations, etc.) ceases to be. You live on by feeding the earth and being remembered (objective immortality). This is beautiful in my mind: you do a little dance and fade into the abyss. Basically, in my mind, finitude is the precondition for meaningful experience. Being conscious forever would either drive you mad, or be really, really, boring. So make this count, you only have one go at it. #existentialSundays
