I was asked today how i would go about enacting term limits for congress. It was presupposed that congress would not vote for the above mentioned idea. This is not a problem. The founding fathers in their inestimable wisdom forsaw just such a problem. The much beloved constitution has the availability of an Article V constitutional convention. Article. V. The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution,--" or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments"--, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate. So to put it bluntly WE the people have the power to end the imperial congress and all of their shennanigans. Vote in the positive for a term limits bill or we the people will call for an Article V convention to pass a term limits amendment. Power is in our grasp, will we take it and run or just gripe about it. There is no way you can tell me that 2/3rds of the states would not support a term limits amendment. Only other thing we need do is limit the scope of the convention to term limits, not every off the wall idea any nutcake could come up with.
