I was asked what I was referring to in an earlier post. I mentioned the health club along with this phrase: “I didn’t do it.” So, here’s the health club story I told at church, yesterday. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Something very unpleasant happened at the health club last week. I can’t go into detail about the matter because it is too gross. People would be mad at me if I described it and they would say, “Gee Dan, what’s wrong with you?!? Doesn’t common sense tell you not to put those kinds of descriptions in your on-line posts?” So, I won’t describe it. However, as I was leaving the club the employee who had been assigned to clean up the mess walked past me and gave me a disgusted look. My impulse was to say, “Hey, I know why you’re staring at me in that disgusted way. You think I’m responsible for the unpleasantness. And I can understand why you would be upset at the person who did this. But I’m not the one who did it!!!” I didn’t say anything, though, because I thought, “If I stop to tell him I am not the responsible party, that will probably seem like the behavior of the guilty person.” So, he gave me his disgusted look as we passed each other and we both kept walking. But, for the record, I’m not the responsible party.... …Even though some of you who are reading this—and some of the people who heard me tell it at church—are now probably thinking, “Wow, there’s no doubt about it. Dan is the one who did it.” But I didn’t do it! Really! …Frankly, I now realize these are the kinds of stories a person should never bring up, in the first place!
