I was asked, what makes me so sure Anwar Ibrahim wont be the same - TopicsExpress

I was asked, what makes me so sure Anwar Ibrahim wont be the same two faced hypocrite racists like Najib and Khairy, if Anwar had remained in UMNO as DPM. Well, there is no certainty in politics. To begin with, there is nothing wrong to be Islamic, or for this matter, religious. My parents are devoted Christians, that doesnt make them racists. I know of Muslim preachers who are not supremacists and racists, Ustaz Azhar Idrus and Nik Aziz for example. The monks, who are devotees, are loyal to their beliefs, but that doesnt necessarily make them racists. Secondly, there is no certainty in politics. This hypothetical question has no answer. It is like asking, why are you working or studying so hard, you are wasting your time if tomorrow is the end of the world. One thing I admire about Anwar Ibrahim throughout my exposure and experience is the fact that he never fails to emphasize the importance of a multiracial and tolerant nation. He makes use of every opportunity to mention the different races in Malaysia- Chinese, Malays, Indians, Ibans, Kadazans, and the need for a whole nation to be lifted holistically. In each and every single speech he has made, he starts by reciting May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you in Arabic. At functions attended by mostly Chinese, he never fails to touch on his role as a proud Malay Muslim leader to be a good role model; At Pas ceramahs, he never fails to touch on the importance to recognise and respect the Chinese and other races and religions, and the need to memartabatkan semua pelusuk bangsa dan keturunan. There was no need to bash the Chinese for Malay support, and no need to flay the Malays for Chinese support. At Chinese temples, he maintains himself as a proud Muslim, without the need to act like a buddhist. At mosques, he distances himself from denouncing other religion in order to tap the rich veins of Muslim support. If Anwar is able do this, why cant Najib or Khairy emulate? To add on, he did not buck away from highlighting himself as a Muslim leader in the recent speech and forum in Georgetown University and Stanford College, despite being fully aware of the dangers and pitfalls of being a Muslim advocate in the US. His only crime, was to be persistent in condemning racism, extremism and corruption which has been the norm of the ruling party. And for that, he has sacrificed decades of his life, family time and private life. So to answer the question above, I dont know if Anwar Ibrahim will. But it is an irrelevant question.
