I was asked what one should put on their Medic Alert emblem (from MedicAlert.org) here is my reply. reply: depends which one you get when you call them to order they can suggest what will work best on the emblem you get I have the full word and TYPE that is definitely important. I rather have major stuff like VWD wrote out on my little emblem then it maybe not clicking in a paramedics mind what that is. Regardless once the first responders see your emblem they will call the phone number on the emblem and give the operator at MedicAlert your member number also on the emblem and they will let them know your medications (so you dont have a reaction), allergies (like if your allergic to penicillin), and major health issues like VWD, diabetes, etc, as well as your blood type. That way they can work on your properly. Hope that helps. Again I DO NOT work for Medic Alert but have had an emblem since 1991 and my grandfather who is a Hemophilic (and then some, as well as allergic to bees) has had one since the 70s. Our emblems have saved our lives many many times. None of the other medical bracelets (necklaces, etc) have the emergency line nor are the others what paramedics, EMTS, nurses, doctors, etc trained to look for.
