I was at Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina recently chatting about hunger relief and charitable giving when someone shared the most moving story with me... Last month two homeless men walked into Second Harvest, seemingly to ask for food. It was apparent they had cleaned up for the trip, were poised and polite. Second Harvest staff members were prepared to field their questions but what they asked for came as a shock: "Can we volunteer?" In an unexpected turn of events, they came not to ask for help but to give it. They were living down the street at a homeless shelter and felt they could be doing more with their time. Two men with nothing found a way to give something. This is the spirit of PlateShare and the innate human goodness that fuels us. This is proof that those with very little can still give a lot. This is the belief that the sum of our combined small efforts will change the world. This is change. - Katie Levans, PlateShare Founder
