I was at Smart and Final today, the woman in front of me was buying an armload of junk food: soda, candy and chips. After paying she rudely commanded I need a bag to which the cashier gave her one of the thicker handle plastic bags. I asked the cashier about it well, we charge for all bags but she is an EBT user and for them bags are free This is another outrageous slap in the face. California has between 33-38% of ALL welfare recipients in the US, we are the most prodigious magnet for freeloaders in America. From the CA EBT site The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), can add to your food budget to put healthy and nutritious food on the table. So, a complete failure...A welfare system that says it exists for nutrition but allows purchase of the worst kind of food and a local bag ban with an exception for our overpopulated handout culture. How does any of this system benefit our society ?? Martin Heidegger famously asserted that there was nobility in poverty, nothing could be further from the truth. Any society that celebrates failure and punishes success will get exactly what it deserves. This November, lets help solve one small part of this problem by electing a new hb city council that will prioritize success. ebtproject.ca.gov
