I was at the VA today and a VA police officer came over to me. And while I was wonder what this cranky old man (me) did wrong, he proceeded to explain our connection. He was a bank guard first at Texas Commerce and later at JP Morgan Chase. He started at about the time I did and left about the time I did. We proceeded to reconnect and recall our mutual acquaintance. Then I asked him how many parking tickets he wrote that day and he said none since he was a supervisor. I would have taken his photo but the VA forbids on privacy issues. The VA has a critical parking problem. It is the only hospital facility in the Texas Medical Center which is massive that has free, uncontrolled parking. Nearly all the other facilities and hospitals have staff who park at the VA and take the shuttle to their jobs. The Houston Chronicle did a survey which determined that half of the cars in the VA parking facility had no connection with the VA. I recommended that they use the RICO statutes against repeat offenders and simply confiscate their cars which is allowed under RICO. Even if they just ticket them they have to appear before a FEDERAL MAGISTRATE to be heard. I was planning on organizing a visitation to the Federal Court by veterans who had been denied parking due to these scum.
