I was bemused this week to read a young trans person write for a national newspaper and claim that trans people hadnt had any big wins yet :-) So, presumably the protection from discrimination in employment wasnt a win? And the confirmation of the right to NHS treatment wasnt a win? And a fairly straightforward administrative process for legal recognition wasnt a win? And publishing a slew of official NHS guidance on trans care wasnt a win? I know that kids can enter a field desperately ignorant of their history but I almost fell off my zimmer frame. Interestingly the young uns seem more clued up about their more ancient history ... quick to remember Silvia Rivera and also fond of the trans woman whose divorce wrecked trans rights for over 30 years and then ran off. The folks who set up trans support organisations over the last 50 years and those who picked up the pieces of that latter train wreck seem to get overlooked though. Kids, huh? :-)
