I was born and grew up in the Philippines and all of us cousins on my moms side learned English first because our parents believed it was an advantage to learn the other, globally used language well - since we would learn Filipino (Tagalog) well inevitably thru our environment and school. Yes, I did have to take summer classes for Filipino during my 1st grade to make up for the lowest grade ive ever gotten in my entire life but the advantage of being able to speak english well and confidently throughout my life far outweigh my 1 lost summer. - lou
