I was born at HV and Delivered by Dr. Christensen (all 3 of my siblings were) and my Daddy retired from The Mead after 43 years as No. 1 Top Welder. He passed away in 2002 RIP. My Daddys Dad was Pastor Rev. James T. Richards who helped start Bloomingdale Baptist Church and Kingsport Christian Schools. My Mommy worked 1 or 2 months at the downtown Kroger. She would take me shopping at JC Penny and I remember those stair cases - so pretty. Hills and WoolWorths were my favorite place to go along when Daddy would take me to the Newstand on Broad that sold all kinds of things. However, the owner didnt like kids too much lol so I was not allowed to go in there often. Maybe once or twice. I remember there was cruisin but of course I was just a kid and was not allowed to do that when I grew up. Daddy gave me a Bible from The Press that I still have. So many lay-offs through the years from there. Kingsport! The great Model City! Not such a bad place to live I would say. I have 3 older siblings and all kinds of cousins and seedlings from them. My older 3 siblings left home by the time I was 7 so it was like living alone. They got married. I remember seeing Gone With the Wind when I was 5 at the theater near where the HMG Glass Building is now. I remember going to Bloomingdale Drug Store a lot across from the Doctors office. The Childrens Clinic and Dental near Center Street. We lived at the back entrance of Ketron High School and I walked to Kingsley with older kids until 2nd grade when we moved to what is now Mt. Carmel but was Church Hill back then (1976). So many memories before I Ieft Bloomingdale. My Papaw owned the Grocery Store on the corner of Bloomingdale Pike / Waddalow Gap / John B Dennis. My other Papaw led singing at Broadview Church in Lynn Garden. So many memories!
