I was catching up on Newsroom late last night and no spoiler but someone dealt with a tragic event by cutting off all her hair. This made me think for a second about how often shaving their heads is used as a coping mechanism or outlet of rebellion by White women in movies. Debra in Empire Records. Helen Slater in The Legend of Billy Jean. (The coolest one on this list because of that Love is a Battlefield montage. Sorry Empire Records you know I love you. And earlier a friend brought up Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta. I didnt care for that movie and only watched it once so I dont quite remember why she saved her head exactly. Is this a super common theme? Are there others Im forgetting? I think from now on if I encounter a White female that just cut all her hair off Im just going to awkwardly smile, attempt to avoid eye contact and try to walk the other way.
