I was challenged by Laura McBride to list 10 books that have stuck - TopicsExpress

I was challenged by Laura McBride to list 10 books that have stuck with me for whatever reasons. Ive listed them chronologically. And Im cheating because I love a good series, not just one book. The first three were read when I was in elementary and junior high and solidified my love for reading. 1. Laura Ingalls Wilders Little House on the Prairie. I was obsessed with these books and re-read them constantly. 2. Nancy Drew and The Nancy Drew Files (various authors writing under pseudonym Carolyn Keene) 3. The Linda Craig series. Think Nancy Drew on a horse. Authored mostly by Ann Sheldon in the 60s, then various authors in the late 80s. 4. The Scarlet Letter by Hawthorne. I actually enjoyed reading this in high school and thought it must have been a scandalous book when it was originally printed. 5. A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery OConnor. This was a short story read in English II. Sooooo creepy good! 6. Will You Please Be Quiet, Please. This is a collection of short stories by Raymond Carver during the dirty realist movement. Theyre just so ordinary, yet weird and engaging. I also love any short story written by either Barthleme brother during the dirty realist timeframe too. 7. True Grit by Charles Portis. Because its just awesome! And I highly recommend both movies by that that name. John Wayne is great in the original but the 2nd movie is truer to the book. Both are good! 8. Hell is Empty by Craig Johnson. Actually I recommend the whole Longmire series. All are good, but this one is my favorite. Johnson blends references from Dantes Inferno with Indian mysticism. Its very smart and I love that a western can be really good literary fiction. 9. The Harry Potter series by J K Rowling. I re-read these periodically. I wish I had half her imagination. 10. Last, but not least, anything written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, especially anything with Agent Pendergast because hes like a modern Sherlock Holmes. I also love their works because they are very science-y. So there you have it. I now challenge Erin OGrady, Nikki Daniel, and Shannon Taylor.
