I was checking out what Santa brought and double checking my list - TopicsExpress

I was checking out what Santa brought and double checking my list to make sure everything was wrapped when I noticed the mail from a couple of days ago that the kids had laid on the table by the front door. I glanced at it to see if there was anything interesting and noticed a letter from the Department of Drivers Services. Upon opening it I discovered that not only do I have $800 worth of tickets and one year of probation, apparently my license is also suspended for a year starting on the date of my conviction. I can surrender my license at any DDS office or by mail and could possibly get it back after 120 days if I take Defensive Driving and pay $200. In case you missed the beginning of the story, I borrowed an automobile in November to take Garrett to Talladega because my own trucks engine is blown. In Reynolds, GA, I was pulled over because of a headlight being out and discovered that the registration was suspended. I was told that I was going to jail, the truck was impounded and the 6 kids with me were all upset and crying. The officer changed his mind about taking me to jail, but me and the kids had to ride in cop cars to a hotel. The registration was straightened out by the owner of the vehicle the next day and we were able to get the truck out of impound and continue on to Talladega. I went to court on December 10, was informed that I am on probation for a year, or until the tickets totaling $800 are paid. So now I find out that my license is also suspended. For a fee I can possibly get a temporary permit that will allow me to go to school and work. I guess its a good thing I have another driver in the house. I should be able to get my license back by the time I have to drive Rebecca to Atlanta for open-heart surgery. Merry Christmas to me!
