I was craving a burger today, so I looked up a couple places in my neighborhood and set off to sate my hunger. Unfortunately, I was unable to find the branch of the heralded Burger B that supposedly resides in my area, so I stopped in to a burger/pub that I had passed on search. This is the Broil House Gastro Kitchen and Irish Pub, conveniently located in the lower area of Nurrikum Square in Digital Media City, Seoul (상암동, 마포구) I ordered the Gorgonzola Burger Set (8,700 for the burger + 2,000 for fries and Max beer), which contains gorgonzola cheese, arugula, grilled mushrooms and bail-mayo piled upon a 130g patty. I asked for the burger to be cooked medium rare and it arrived (no surprise in Korea) cooked medium. The burger itself was solid. The cheese was a bit on the salty side, but the patty and mushrooms seemed to be unseasoned, so things did balance out a bit. I didnt really taste much of the mayo which is good, as I prefer my burgers with less sauce. The arugula complemented the burger very well. Considering that the fries (plus beer) were only 2,000 extra, I wasnt expecting too much; however, they were exquisite. They were very crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. A good amount of fries were served as well. Only downside would be that they were a tad under-seasoned (really nitpicking here). Some Old Bay or even a tad bit of salt wouldve perfected this dish. The beer was.... well as good (or bad) as Korean beer can be I guess. The place had your standard Euro/American beers on hand as well as craft beers from Californias Lost Coast Brewery. If the Max hadnt been included in the combo, I wouldve gone for a better brew. Overall, I left satisfied. The burger alone isnt a great value, but the weekday lunch special that added the fries and drink for 2k made it worth getting. This is, however, literally only the second burger that Ive had the pleasure of devouring in about two years (long story), so my rating may potentially be skewed high. Ill definitely be back here later on to try this restaurant out again. This place is located in Digital Media City and is quite a hike away from the rest of Seoul. Ive heard that there are many great burger places in the nearby Hongdae as well, so this place may really only be appealing to those who live in the Paju/Ilsan areas of Korea or those who really want to try out a new burger joint. The restaurant has both table and bar seating.
