I was discussing the value of sincerity with a friend recently and it struck me that in this postmodern world we are crippled by the thought of being unclever. The stigma of being painted as non-cynical is essentially the same as being perceived as a naive idiot, imperceptive of the great inequities faced by all. A sad state for sure, perhaps not entirely unwarranted but just as well, quite the drag. But when I hear sounds like this by the greatest proponents of the cynicism I described earlier, I feel it is sincere. And as corny and cheesy as it is, it still makes a resounding impact on me.
