I was driving with my dog this afternoon on a two lane highway - TopicsExpress

I was driving with my dog this afternoon on a two lane highway with a speed limit of 55. Everyone usually drives 70 around here, but I tend to drive more slowly and always with my headlights on for safety. Any way, I was only doing about 45 going down hill when a car stuck its nose out of a driveway into my lane. I was so glad it stopped moving forward leaving me just enough room to get by when the car began to move again and came out into the road. I hit the breaks, my tires screeched, my dog flew up against the back of my seat and I aimed for the extreme right edge of the road, just shy of going over an embankment and hitting a guardrail and the rear end of the car coming out of the driveway. I hit my horn as We skidded along and I noticed it was an old woman driving the car. Thank God she had gotten enough speed going to clear my front end and there were no cars behind me or coming the other way. I dont think she ever saw me coming. I almost bought the farm today. What if I had been going just a little faster, like the speed limit of 55? Imagine if I had been doing 70? And think of the mess if there had been another car coming from the other direction. When I got to the store I was going to, the dog was in the front seat beside me. His leash doesnt allow him in the front seat. Then I noticed that his weight had pulled the rear seat back over to the front when I hit the brakes. Poor thing. He took a beating today.
