I was eighteen months old when Bloody Sunday happened in my hometown of Derry. I am one of six children in my family who grew up in the 70s and 80s in Northern Ireland. I often think about how my parents didnt go completely off their heads with worry about their children during that awful time. For twenty years after that Sunday in January 72 the so called Troubles were at their most vicious. As a parent now I have no idea how I would have coped trying to ensure my children were safe everyday. However, my parents, like so many others in Derry did keep us safe and not only that, created a very happy household in the midsts of the violence that was all around us. It seems that today the people of Gaza are going through what we did but multiplied by a hundred. I dont pretend to know the origins of the conflict between Israel and Palestine but I know enough to realize that it is disgusting. If Obama wants to leave a legacy that is more than him simply being the first black President then he has to take Israel to task. So many of the victims of Gaza are innocent children. I am a big supporter of Obama but if he sits and watches this and does nothing then he is no better than that lunatic W Bush. Israel will not stop murdering Palestinians until the are made to stop. God bless and watch over the children of Gaza.
