I was elected to the Common Council with a wonderful group of people and we all look forward to working constructively with the new mayor. They want to govern, as do I. So lets end the speculation. . There have been all types of rumors, blogger speculation, nonsense about me being in the catbird seat because of my status: A registered Democrat elected on the Republican ticket. Let me be clear: I intend to caucus with my Republican colleagues on the Council. I do not plan to play political games, manipulate situations, join the Democratic caucus. Yes, I am a registered Democrat, and yes, I support the Democrats when it comes to national affairs. But no, I do not believe party labels should matter when it comes to local politics. . I promise to vote my conscience and work closely with those who supported me the last few months. Unlike the situation in 2011, when I was elected with seven other Democrats who began fighting moments after the polls closed, the members of the Republican ticket who were fortunate enough to win on Tuesday understand the importance of working together and respecting each others opinions. . For anyone out there who believes they can get me to flip the Council, dont even try. I find the notion insulting.
