I was fond of motor bikes. I used to change my bike every two - TopicsExpress

I was fond of motor bikes. I used to change my bike every two years. One of my friends asked for the reason. I told him because wife perforce has to be constant. I keep on switching between two stroke 2.5 bhp Ideal Jawa and 4 stroke 3.5 bhp Royal Enfield Bullet Deluxe. I had no other option as these were the only 2 out of three motor bikes (third being poor quality Rajdoot) available to starved licence raj Indians. Surprisingly smaller horse power Jawa had better climbing power over the steep hills than Bullet. It effortlessly climbed the steep mountain curvy road from Kathgodam to Nainital and even stiffer almost vertical climb of kuchha road to Sherwood College Nainital. At that time a Brits friend visited me at my farm. He had a Honda 1.25 bhp self-start Honda. Its power was more than Jawa and Bullet as it scaled road (with a gradient that rose 50 ft every mile) from my farm to Haldwani. Oh, how I clamoured to own that bike!! I thought mine wish fulfilled when Japanese bikes were introduced in India. I was one of the first to eagerly buy TVS Suzuki (I had come to Mumbai at that time). My bike appeared on an ad of Castrol. It disappointed me because of both its weak engine power and its lethargic brakes. I didn’t buy Yamaha 3.5 horse power bike as it had troubles with its mobiloil (lubricating) pump and because it guzzled fuel (15km a litre) like a monster.
