I was given number 11, so here are 11 things you may not know about me: 1. Many know I am a football coach, but my first coaching gig was coaching a Church league basketball team...we did real well 2. My best friend growing up was my brother, Kelly Martinez, who is over 7 years younger than me 3. I was the first Hispanic football coach at Huntington Park High School (LA area) & Antelope Valley College 4. My great grandfather, on my dads side of the family, was a full-blooded American Indian...my moms ancestors were Mormon pioneers 5. I speak Spanish, although many dont think I look Hispanic 6. I have experienced discrimination due to my ethnicity, size, nationality, & religion...neither of them were pleasant experiences 7. I coached a young man, George Brodus Clay Murdoch, who went on to become a pro wresler 8. My wife & I have visited China, Singapore, Thailand, Mexico, & Guatemala 9. As a child, I attended the first AFC vs. NFC Pro Bowl 10. The poster I had hanging in my room throughout my childhood was one of Merlin Olsen, a defensive tackle for the LA Rams who was later elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame...I still own a letter he sent me back in the 70s 11. My poor English grammar does not convey this, but I have three college degrees: AA, BA, & MA; and I love to read
