I was going back over my notes from todays message: Church as it Should Be.... There were a couple of points I did not get to bring out... What prompted my working on this sermon came from a very disturbing statement made by Victoria Osteen. She said, I just want to encourage every one of us to realize when we obey God, were not doing it for God—I mean, thats one way to look at it—were doing it for ourselves, because God takes pleasure when were happy. Thats the thing that gives Him the greatest joy… So, I want you to know this morning: Just do good for your own self. Do good because God wants you to be happy. When you come to church, when you worship Him, youre not doing it for God really. Youre doing it for yourself, because thats what makes God happy. Amen? We are not doing for God??? Doing worship just for ourselves?? Being obedient just for ourselves??? Such is the mindset of a generation who takes 1 million selfies a day. Worship is about exalting Christ...not about us being made happy. The reason Church is becoming irrelevant to the unchurched is because we have made it about exalting ourselves and pursuing our passions rather making it about lifting up Christ! After all, it is when Christ alone is lifted up that men are drawn unto Him....
