I was going to play another version of this song with pictures from the Depression of the 30s. The President who presided over its construction was a Republican enamored of the wealthy elite. Roosevelt inherited the mess and turned it around. He was elected to three terms but died in office. His Vice President, Harry Truman presided over the end of WWII. Obama also inherited a mess. It also included two needless wars. Still, the Republicans are steadfast in their refusal to help the country turn around. Its OK. The country has turned around on its own without Republican help. I give credit to Obama and the Democrats even if others do not. The song is my favorite in a string of favorites by this duo and later by Simon alone. I grew up in meager circumstances and knew early in life that I had little chance of advancing. The only chance I had was my mind. I fell quite short of my plans but am no longer in the circumstances of my youth. I lived through my own financial depression for many years. The feeling is like that described by The Boxer.
