I was going to write up something about the stigmata of Saint Francis this morning but something happened while i cooked my daily bread and I need to tell you all! I make, most mornings. some flat bread made with spelt flour. Farina di farro in Italian! As I was mixing the flour, salt and water together I became aware of a large green grasshopper on the granite work surface......I started to pour the fairly liquid mixture into a cooking tray and as i did.......something and hoppy landed on my spectacles. The liquid went on my trousers and my shoes etc. I squealed a little with shock.........it was happy in its new position. Position. Career move? As my stylish and startling sun blocker! A new fashion accessory. I waited and waited but it was not ready to resign its post so I carried on with the bread making activity. Then I started to empty the dish washer which I had left full, clean and open since yesterday evening, I took out forks and spoons and knives from the small untensil holder while still wearing my adorable adornment on my face and saw in an empty compartment another small and grey grass hopper. Gotta be dead I said. At this point it leapt at my face........disturbed the other insect and they landed on the cool hob together. What is it with me and insects at the minute? They love this house and I love having butterflies as they circle and decorate my windows. But waspish and hornetty people I prefer ourside!
