I was having a conversation with Katherine this morning about the freedom Wilson has and the biggest ways it supports future murders. Our cops look at jail, murder, fines, etc... as the consequence of doing something wrong. Like if there are harsh enough consequences, our society will behave well. This lessens our standards of human capability. I would like to think that inside of grown people is the feeling that one should not lie, steal, harm, murder, etc.... because it is simply not the right thing to do. When we create a system where anything is an okay thing to do if you dont get caught, we are lessening our standards. I believe that cop mentality is the starting place of these degraded standards. What ads to this is their immunity. Their immunity combined with the doing the right thing out of fear mentality is not only unjust, it sets the standard for which people choose to operate. I am not saying that humans do not have control of their free will to just be kind if they choose. Im not saying that there are not many other factors to consider for negative behaviors. I just feel that if the standard were set in a different way... we might see a kinder culture and more justice. When Michael Brown was murdered there was also a news story from somewhere like Iceland (?) where the police shot and murdered a out of control gun wielding person. This was the first police shooting in ten years. The police mourned... the country mourned. Are Iclandic humans that much more different than United states humans? I doubt it. Cultures set their standards.
