I was having a conversation with my cousin about the atrocities I see on a daily basis, and how viewing things like that can often desensitize us and leave us apathetic. While its important to stay sensitive to such horrors so that we retain compassion, its also crucial to be knowledgeable. We must also prepare, so that when these atrocities hit close to home we are strong and ready. I remember the very first video I ever saw of a beheading. I was in high school and knew virtually nothing about Islam. I couldnt even watch the entire thing, but I remember the sounds perfectly, as if an audio recording is playing in my head. Now, almost nothing shocks me. However, my passion, anger, and sense of urgency have not left. I have been desensitized of the gore, but not of the nature. I am still appalled and shocked that man can do these things, but not THAT he does these things. Im no expert. I no celebrity or analyst. I havent even been to the Middle East. Even as I speak with you I pluck away at a worn out laptop from my couch. Im just a 27-year-old Christian woman who reads the hadith and Quran, and studies various Muslim countries Islamic Sharia law in my spare time because an unquenchable, unexplainable drive in me compels me to do so. Im just like you, fed up and restless. I have a meager Facebook page, a laid-back slot as a journalist at two websites, and a few big contacts in the world of Islamic exposure. I dont know where God is taking me with this, but I do know that he never wants us to stay at the level at which we are.
