I was having a little mosey around cyberspace earlier on and got stopped dead in my tracks by my mate Weave Founded Nations post about hair weaving, was reading through a few comments and noticed someone stating that black women have been weaving hair for eons and encouraging black women to take ownership of the trade, yes this is partially correct, women in Africa have been adorning their hair since the beginning of time, but take ownership?? Of what? Barbies hair and pretend its your own? You cant take ownership of something that was never yours, that is akin to stealing. Im sure back then the women were not using other cultures hair and seeing it as the epitome of beauty! This comment by the person also alluded to because it was done in Africa, makes it ok, I dont subscribe to this as being the case, there were many things that occurred in the motherland that as a modern thinking human with god given wisdom has chosen to dissect and research for oneself as some of the customs does not sit right with my comprehension, for instance, all over body scarification, heinous tribal wars, also the fact that Im here in the west is evident some of my ancestors colluded with my kidnappers in trade offs to suit their own end. What Im saying is, just because something was practised in good ole mama Africa, doesnt mean all was good! Look how many of you frown upon FGM for instance, human sacrifice etc! We must face facts and be real! Straight talk ereday, no chaser!!
