I was helping a friend of mine who was the coach of grass root team in my home town of Elgin, Illinois. Who has put together a national power in cross country & track called the Sharks. The team was lacking in field events and I was asked to teach these age group kids how to throw. I said Sure not knowing at that time that many of the kids spoke fluent spanish & little english . They were more than ready to learn but I was unable to demonstrate do to the hitch in my get a long. Unable to explain or show them my secrets I came up with a new drill that teaches position , footwork and momentum needed to throw. I was at a park, on a road with a curb that became a toe board . I had the eager kids hold a tire over their heads and do South Africans with the tires landing in the grass. The bigger kids were to use two tires to handicap their size. Other drills evolved doing double rotations & triples . They rotated up and down the hills balancing the tires over head thus teaching the foot work and posture needed for the linell approach to rotational throwing without saying a word.
