I was impressed by my son’s assertiveness and persistence which I didn’t have when I was 14. Since school resumed, he complained about his class, being separated from his friends/classmates from previous school year. Apparently he was the only student that was transferred to another class this year. He was very adamant to change class. However, we advised him to stay and make new friends. He joked, “Mom, they are bunch of kids who still watch Naruto.” I joked back, “Well, watch Naruto so you all have one thing in common, what’s Naruto by the way?” My husband laughed. David replied, “Naruto is a Japanese ninja, anyhow, it’s only a figure of speech. Seriously, I don’t feel motivated in that class. My future is at stake here! I have to do something about it.” Guess what he did the following morning… he went to the school director’s office, spoke to the secretary and told her his issues. She asked him to fill up a form which she will give to the Director, but that was not sufficient for David. Last week, he went every morning to the director’s office to catch him but no luck so he decided to book an appointment with the Director. Each morning, I reminded him to make sure that he speaks from his heart if he gets the chance to talk to him. Yesterday he finally spoke to the Director, they discussed his request and he granted David’s wish. Today, he joined his new class. Hurray! We are very happy for him and congratulated him for his accomplishment! Based on this scenario, I’m proud to say that as David’s parents, we have created a go-getter from scratch ;)
