I was in Lagos recently and something further showed me that corruption has been institutionalized. The cab driver told me how he was carrying a retired judge and they took a turn which turned out to be one way. THERE WAS NO SIGN INDICATING SO. The judge did not interfere at first and after whoever that caught him told him how he contravened the law, the judge sought for his Defence. The cab driver said there was nothing to tell anyone it was one way. The whoever said he was on ground to make sure people obey the one way sign. The judge then chipped in, you should be at the beginning of the road, directing people not to use it instead of hiding to catch people. NOW THIS IS WHERE THE INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION COMES IN. THE JUDGE ASKED THE DRIVER TO JUST FIND SOMETHING AND GIVE THEM. The driver gave them N500 even when the both know he did not commit any crime. SAD FOR THIS COUNTRY.
