I was in Sydney last night to meet with like-minded health professionals from a variety of modalities, discussing the benefits of complementary medicines in Australia. Many of these people you would know by reputation and media exposure, but the discussions were focussed on heath outcomes. We discussed the targeted use of complementary medicines, and a new economic report showing huge changes in avoided hospital costs, productivity gains and net economic benefits. Its a sad reflection on the narrow-mindedness of many health professionals that they dont encourage their patients to look beyond the chronic diseases they are battling. Many of these health professionals are quite comfortable (emotionally and economically) with their patients never actually getting well, but merely maintaining their illness levels over time.
