I was in a meeting around 5:30 when my phone began ringing... instead of going to voicemail, my phone continued to ring.. I excused myself to grab my phone, saw it was my dad and quickly answered. He told me, my mom had taken a nasty fall, hitting the back of her head and would require stiches. My sister and I quickly left for the Urgent Care. I cant express the feelings of helplessness and heart break to witness my sweet mom, sitting in her wheelchair repeatedly asking what happened. A very kind nurse practitioner gently cleaned and prepared the wound for the 6 staples it would require. As my sister and I drove home... She looked at me and said.. Its so cruel, really...Mom will never remember. Yes, Alzheimers is very cruel... Tonight was a hard wake-up call... Alzheimers continues its progression to take my mom, away.. slowly ... painfully. I am grateful for the tender mercy of her extraordinary care-giver, a kind nurse and most of all... my moms eternal optimistic outlook.. In the end.. she continues to be an unwavering example of courage and grace. I love you mom. #alzheimers #families
