I was in a time of a very negative situation. I was so hungry to regain the presence of the Lord that I spent months asking God to kill me — not because I was in sin, and not because of my physical circumstances, but because I had tasted of a love and a relationship with God that I just felt I could not live without. It was like being on a high, and when I came down I asked myself how I could ever again live at a level below that. Now the point that I am making is that the severest depression I have ever experienced came not because of sin or of problems in the physical, natural realm, but because I had a longing for God that I was no longer able to fulfill.
