I was in and out of post-secondary institutions for almost 7 years before my acceptance to OCAD. Ive fought against being an artist my whole life because I was stupid enough to believe my peers: Theres no money in art. Theres no future in art. Im about to hand in my 3rd-to-last final project for my first year at OCAD, and Im actually glowing with pride. To anyone filled with doubt, anxiety, depression, or hopelessness.. dont give up. Every project you complete is a milestone. Youve grown a little, or youve grown a lot. Your grades range from failure to above average, but not perfect. Its all relative. You finally grasp linear perspective, colour has a psychological meaning to you, and everywhere you go youre beginning to acknowledge the art that surrounds you. Youre that much closer to fulfilling one of the many dreams in your life. Im one of the hard-ass voices here on Spotted. Im tired of the lack of encouragement, so heres to hoping someone feels even slightly less miserable. Hang in there, purveyors of Spotted!
