I was in kaduna in 2002 when the miss world beauty pageant was held in Abuja. A columnist, in her quest to make a beautiful display of her verbiage, mentioned that if Mohammed was alive, hed admire the girls as well. This innocent, harmless words sparked protests that saw lots of people killed by Muslims. A cartoon was drawn of Mohammed in Denmark....the Muslim world reacted violently, leaving many dead in their wake. Salman Rushdie wrote a fictional book about the Satanic verses...how did the Muslim world react? Violently...lives were lost, a fatwa declared to get salman killed. Polio vaccination in nigeria was successful at first, the first dose successfully administered. We were inches close to being polio free...suddenly, Islamic scholars told their followers not to allow the vaccine. Reason: the Christian west was trying to make their children sterile. Volunteers were murdered and polio came back and it was spread to other countries by our citizens. How did the Islamic community react? I never heard any reaction. Isis has murdered lots of people, chasing people from their homes, forcing them to convert to Islam. I havent seen any reaction from the Muslim community. Priorities? Seems blasphemy is more important than these other issues.
