I was in middle school when The Manhattan Transfers Vocalse came out. It was the summer of 1986 and I was visiting my grandparents in Detroit and WJZZs own Rosetta Hines-Loving broke TMTs Killer Joe. Now, WJZZ was always playing TMTs music, but this record was different, special! This record was in extended rotation. Me being a teen, I asked my dad to take me to the old Sams Jams in Ferndale.(Yeah, that great record store on the corner of Woodward and Nine Mile). I bought it and took it back to Indianapolis and my scope of music changed forever. Tim Housers vision re-introduced a new legion of music fans to the world of Jon Hendricks, the father of vocalese. But the record that made Vocalese a masterpiece was their modern rendition of Dizzys Gillespies A Night In Tunisia with lyrics written by Hendricks. The song feature TMT with Hendricks and Bobby McFerrin. Heres the live concert of that famous record from 1986. Thanks for this Tim and TMT. Rest in peace Time and keep on swinging. https://youtube/watch?v=O4ll0iYPyoY
